Moment of Gratitude

Moment of Gratitude 2021

On Friday, April 30, LiveOnNY and its partners observe a Moment of Gratitude in recognition of all organ, eye and tissue donors who selflessly gave the gift of life.

This year, the Moment of Gratitude begins with an original poem by LiveOnNY's Tosin Oyekoya called “Birds Chirp.” Members of the LiveOnNY Aftercare Services team (Kayla Smith, Daisy Sosa and Yie Foong) will then read the Moment of Gratitude in English, Spanish and Chinese. Kayla Smith will then close with a call and response poem titled “We Remember Them.”

We Remember Them

We Remember Them, a special call and response poem can be read as part of the Moment of Gratitude.

At the rising sun and at its going down; We remember them.

At the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter; We remember them.

At the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring; We remember them.

At the blueness of the skies and in the warmth of summer; We remember them.

At the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of the autumn; We remember them.

At the beginning of the year and when it ends; We remember them.

As long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as; We remember them.

When we are weary and in need of strength; We remember them.

When we are lost and sick at heart; We remember them.

When we have decisions that are difficult to make; We remember them.

When we have joy we crave to share; We remember them.

When we have achievements that are based on theirs; We remember them.

For as long as we live, they too will live, for they are now a part of us as; We remember them.

Tribute Language: Moment of Gratitude

Moment of Gratitude Tribute Language: "Today, in recognition of Donate Life Month, we pause to pay tribute to the selfless individuals, both children and adults, who have saved lives through organ and tissue donation. On this day and in this moment, we join for a moment of gratitude -- a moment of silence to reflect upon the heroic act of donors, the courage of their families and the renewed health and happiness of those fortunate enough to receive these very precious gifts."
