In an effort to raise both money and awareness for organ donation, New York Organ Donor Network (NYODN) has ten charitable spots available for the 2013 ING New York City Marathon. If you are interested in running to save lives, simply fill out the application sharing your personal story related to organ donation and reason you would like to run for the cause. The fundraising requirement for each spot is $2,500.
Here in New York, only 21% of residents are enrolled in the New York State Donate Life Registry as organ, eye, and tissue donors. Nationwide, the average is 45%. Additionally, there are nearly 10,000 New Yorkers waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. You can help.
The ING New York City Marathon, slated to take place November 3rd, is one of the world's great road races, drawing more than 100,000 applicants annually. The race offers an amazing opportunity to excel in the media capital of the world before two million cheering spectators and 315 million worldwide television viewers. Running for NYODN will help spread the message on the importance of organ donation and contribute to increasing the number of registered organ donors in New York.
