June 10th marked the 3rd annual Donate Eight Cocktail Reception, held to raise awareness for the life-saving power of organ donation in our communities.
Donate Eight is a non-profit organization that was founded by members of the New York City Real Estate, Building Management and Building Services community in response to the immediate need to increase organ donation awareness and registration.
Through generous donations over the past two years, Donate Eight has been able to fund many programs through LiveOnNY that impact organ donation, awareness and education in the New York Metropolitan area. The organ donation registry grew by 9% in the New York metro area in 2014, outpacing the rest of New York State. Over 900 physicians and health care professionals were educated on the topic of organ donation, and 1,215 lives were saved.
This year, the reception was held at Gotham Hall on 1356 Broadway from 6:00-9:00 pm. All proceeds went to benefit LiveOnNY. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Sander S. FLorman, MD, the director of the Recanti/Miller Transplantation Institute, Acacia Puelo, an organ recipient, and Michael Hargaden, the husband of Rosemary Hargaden, an organ recipient. The speakers shared their close connections to organ donation and stressed the need for organ donors in New York State.
